Children and Community Health Center of McKinney is a 501c3 non-profit free
medical clinic serving the medically uninsured and underserved residents of McKinney
and northern Collin County. Volunteer physicians, nurses, pharmacists, translators,
and non-medical volunteers staff the clinic. CCHC has one part-time paid clinic
manager. Patients receive basic healthcare, medications, lab work and some x-rays
at no charge. Patients are welcomed and treated with dignity and compassion as
we strive to build a stronger and healthier community of neighbors.
Since CCHC opened its doors on Aug. 2, 2004, there have been over 5,000 patient
visits. Children are seen on Tuesday evenings at 5:15, no appointment required.
Adults are seen on Wednesday evenings by appointment only. Adults must call the
appointment line, 972-542-6996, on Wednesday mornings between 9 & 10 am to
see if any appointments are available. Diabetic and GYN clinics are held every
six weeks, by appointment only from the regular clinics. The number of medical
providers available determines the number of patients seen each clinic..
CCHC is a community owned medical clinic, with office space donated by Medical
Center of McKinney. Donations have been received from area churches, schools,
service clubs, medical supply companies, drug companies, and many individuals.
CCHC receives support from Presbyterian Hospital of Allen, Centennial Hospital
of Frisco and Medical Center of McKinney. CCHC has received grants
from Collin County Healthcare Foundation for since 2004.
The CCHC Board of Directors consists of local residents, including some
physicians. The Honorary Board of Directors is made up of area hospital administrators,
city officials, school superintendents and civic leaders. There is an Advisory
Board, as well.
Patients are required to provide three documents before being treated by the
clinic – a picture ID, a utility bill showing a current address, and
a statement of income. CCHC sees patients whose income is between the federal
poverty level and 200% above. The clinic sees no patients who have any sort
of insurance, including Medicaid, or other medical assistance or who have medical
insurance available to them.
CCHC is an affiliate of Volunteers in Medicine
Institute, which is funded
by McNeil-Tylenol. The original Volunteers in Medicine clinic is located at
Hilton Head, South Carolina, and was founded by Dr.
Jack McConnell. Until 2008,
CCHC was the only 'Volunteers in Medicine' clinic in Texas. VIMI offers no
monetary support
to CCHC.
